A significant aspect of the Breakthrough Program work is separating young people from the negative environments that have caused them to copy anti-social behaviour, so they can experience a new way of thinking and a new community of support.Â
Up to 80 volunteers join with 20-25 young people for a 5–10-day residential stay, followed by a one-year mentoring process back in their community. Each young person is matched with a caring mature person to walk beside them over the next 12 months to help them achieve goals set during their residential stay. The entire group live within 5 km of each other. Truly, this is ‘the Village’ coming to help instead of waiting and complaining to authorities to ‘fix’ things.
Residential Intensives are what sets the Breakthrough Program apart from all other youth initiatives. The RESIDENTIAL INTENSIVES are what make the difference – instilling a transformation in a young person’s life.
